Maharashtra has the largest number of caves in India. The caves in Maharashtra are so old, dating back to as early as 1st century BC. Ellora in Aurangabad district is the best example for the experiments that had carried out by Buddhist, Hindu and Jain priests in making these huge and wonderful caves. The sculptures in these caves are really fascinating. There are also other caves in this district, which area a few kilometers away from the famous Bibi-Ka-Maqbara.

Day 1 : Arrival Mumbai

On arrival in Mumbai, you will be transferred to the pre booked hotel. Check-in to the hotel and relax. Day free to rest and leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 2 : Mumbai city tour

After breakfast, proceed for the sightseeing tour of Mumbai, drive to the Gateway of India and from here cruise by motorboats (optional) to Elephanta Caves. The most famous of the 9 marvelous sculptured panels is the Trimurthi, or triple-headed Shiva, where the God is depicted as the destroyer, the preserver and the creator. Later visit Prince of Wales Museum, Parliament House, Marine Drive, Jain Temple, Hanging Gardens. Return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Note: Elephanta Caves and Prince of Wales museum are closed on every Monday.

Day 3 : Mumbai - Aurangabad (By Air) & local sightseeing of Aurangabad

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel in Mumbai and transfer to the airport to board the flight for Aurangabad. On arrival transfer to the hotel. Later take half day sightseeing tour of Aurangabad. There are 34 caves - 12 Buddhist (Ad 600-800) 17 Hindu (around AD 900) and they are numbered in that order as you progress from south to North. After relaxation visit at Daulatabad Fort & Bibi ka Maqbara (it is the tomb of Begum Rabia Durani, wife of Emperor Aurangzeb). Later return to the hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 4 : Day excursion to Ellora Caves (Aurangabad - Ellora / 30 km - 1 hr approx.)

After breakfast take a sightseeing tour of Ellora Caves, one of the highly visited World Heritage Sites of India. It houses 34 monasteries and temples with some exclusive uninterrupted sequence of monuments that date back from 600 to 1000 AD. The Temples of Ellora are dedicated to Brahmanism, Jainism, and Buddhism. It also has some of the excellent stonework depicting the legends related to Lord Shiva. After visit return back to hotel.

Day 5 : Day excursion to Ajanta Caves (Aurangabad - Ajanta / 105 km - 2 hr approx.)

After breakfast, head for excursion to the famous Ajanta Caves. Ajanta is one of the few historical and architectural marvels of India. The Ajanta group of caves, depicts the story of Buddhism that prevailed here during 200 BC to 650 AD. Drive back to the hotel in Aurangabad for overnight stay.

Note: The Ajanta Caves are closed to public on all Monday and Ellora caves on Tuesday.

Day 6 : Departure

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and drive back to Mumbai via Pune for departure transfer to the airport to board onward flight.
